The Road by Cormac Mc Carthy

The book that I choose for my book review was the novel "The Road" by Cormac Mc Carthy. The book takes place in a post apolitical version of earth where everyone has either perished or is on there last legs trying to survive. The book follows the life of a boy and his father, and the struggles they go through as they make there way across the United States on foot in their quest in trying to make it to the Western coast, where they plan on living the remaining years of their life. During there journey they go through struggles such as trying to hide from the blood thirsty desperate people that are left in the word, and they also live day to day trying to find food and water knowing that if they don't there time left in the world will soon come to an end. Through out the book a theme that keeps coming up is love. It is the love between the father and son that keeps them from not giving up and it is what keeps them from disappearing into complete insanity.

The element of the book that I found most interesting was how I had never read a book that was based in an authors theory of how the world would come to an end. It made it very interesting to read and it made the book very hard to put down because of its uniqueness to me. My favorite character through out the book was the father because I couldn't imagine having to do the things he did to keep he and his son safe and the author really him a entertaining character to follow through out the book.

After finishing the novel I believe that it was a very good book to read I found it very entertaining and being a person that has never really enjoyed reading I couldn't put the book down. It is unlike any other book that you have read before and i can guarantee that even if you don't like this type of style of book, you will enjoy this read. It was a real page turner and will really give you an appreciation for this authors style of writing. So after reading the book i would give this a definite thumbs UP!!!

  1. That is a very strong endorsement for this novel in the last paragraph. I will add it to me list of books to read. I'm glad you found a book you liked and that it kept you turning pages. Maybe you would like another boy of his (we almost used it as the Work of Literary Merit-it was a finalist) called "All the Pretty Horses."
