Culture Shock!!

It wasn't hard making the decisions with a partner because i choose to work by myself. I found it interesting to read through each slide and what they had to say about the image. Although in the end they were not able to change my opinion. I thought it was an acceptable image to have on there homepage.

1) Yes i believe video games are a form of art. Most of them take far more time to create and make eye catching to the player than a painting does. However i don't believe you will ever see a video game in a museum.
2) No i did not find any of the images offensive or object able. And it was not difficult to decide wether or not the image belonged on the home screen.
3) No the quotes on the site were not strong or influential enough to change my opinion.
4)I believe that video games can create some types of violence but i believe that in the end of the day the type of person who is going to do something violent would do it anyway with out playing video games.

Cool Clothes for the Identical Zombies

In Damien Cav's essay "On Sale at Old Navy: Cool Clothes for the Identical Zombie". He argues that clothing corporations such as Old Navy sell isn't as nice as they sell it out to be. And that he believes people are often influenced to wear stuff they normally wouldn't. Damien believes that it is all just a big game to trap you into buying things. I believe with his statement and also believe that people can be blinded and persuaded by prices to buy things they shouldn't buy. He makes the point of calling us all zombies because he thinks individuality is disappearing with future generations and that everyone is starting to dress that same. I also agree with this statement becasue everywhere i look people are wearing the same brand names and even people who i know in the past would never wear a certain brand are now conforming with everyone else!

Throwing a Book at a Teacher

While reading the novel I came across a cartoon that i thought was really interesting. It was the cartoon where Arnold is throwing his geometry book across the room at his teacher. I think he is doing this because he realized that he has his mother book from when she was in school and that he realizers that he is going to have the same future she has unless he does something about it. He wants to be a successful person and he throws book because he has so much anger built up inside of him!!(page 31)

Vodka and Vans Ad

The first ad i will talk about is the Russian Vodka Ad
I believe that this ad is definitely directed towards young men around the age of 21! While looking at the ad you first see two lovely looking ladies staring right at you then you see the Russian Voka and quickly realize that this is an ad for vodka. I think they want you to believe that if you drink Russian Vodka that you will get certain women like this when in fact this is probably not the case!! They also want you to be attracted to this certain vodka by making the bottles very bright colors and make them appear good even though you might hate vodka.
The second ad i will talk about is the Doice and Gabbana
When i first looked at this ad I wasn't sure as to what was being advertised. Until i finally saw it said Doice and Gabbana. I think that this ad is directed toward men in that it is trying to tell you you will get women like this if you wear or buy them this particular brand name. After looking at the ad for an extended period of time i am still confused as to what its trying to sell but im pretty sure all they wanted to do was attract the eye of the reader buy having pretty women in the ad!

Cartoon Analysis White or Indian

The cartoon that i found most interesting was the drawing of him split between two pages where one half of the page was he as an indian and the second was he as a white kid. I thought that this cartoon was perfect to analyze because it best represented the book. I like how it shows on the white side that he will be successful and that there is hope for him to have a brighter future and then on the indian side it shoes him as a poor skinny kid with a vanishing past. He is cool and is a role model on the white side of the cartoon and a loser on the indian side. He wants to make something of him self and forget about his past!

"Smell Like A Man"

Nothings more manly than a buff man riding a white horse confidently down a beach in my opinion. So i choose Old Spices advertisement for body spray for my first class blog. This was a very different but bold approach to sell body spray that I believe will attract many young men. It definitely attracted me to this particular body spray!!
