My Time as a Blogger

Using blogs as a way of doing assignments was a totally new thing for me this semester. I had never used them before and through out this semester i have really come a long way. My hardest thing with using blog was managing my time. It was hard to stay on top of the blogs so in the future i really need to prepare my self better. But after using this i can really see just how technology is growing. Five years ago i feel like most people would not even know what a blog is and now days its a common thing for people to use. I sure found it as a fun way to do assignments. and i hope that i can use it again in english 1A.

What will be next??

The Picture above shows one of apples very first computers and would be the start of a very huge revolution that the creators unknowingly would change the world. This was the beginning of what now days shapes our lives and how we live and function. People now had access to the internet.

This was the very first cell phone and was the beginning of a whole new era of portable media. Now people were able to talk to each other outside of there houses and cars. At the time this was the newest and fastest way to be social with people through the media.

Not having to be at your computer at home any more was a huge invention. Now people had access to the internet portablly. It was a huge step from the previous big stationary computers. And  was an even better way to be connected with the media.
Above is a picture of the latest mac laptop from apple. This computer and computes like this are what shape our lives everyday and as time goes on we rely more and more on them. To the point were if we did not have computers of gadgets like this to be able to stay connected with the media i don't know what people or i would do with out it.
We don't know what the future will hold for us in the world of social media. What will be the way we stay connected with each other. We have come alone way since that first computer and i cant even imagine what will be next.

I showed how we have stayed connected with the media through the years buying showing different gadgets from different times.

Figurative language

Figurative language makes people like myself make comparisons that may not appear or seem true and seem to have nothing to do with each other. This is why when i heard that we would be working on and studying them i was not excited. I remembered how i learned about them in high school and how it was hard sometimes to come up with similes and metaphors for different situations and sentences. And now i was going to have to do it ago. Well to my surprise they weren't as bad as i once remembered. I was able to fly through such sentences as: A rainbow is like a box of crayons and A waterfall is as refreshing as my shower. I actually had quite a lot of fun making these sentences and enjoyed the break from learning about social media. Metaphors were a lot harder than similes but after a while i got the hang of it. In conclusion i had a great time refreshing on my figurative language skills.

Money = Success

I have and will always will believe that people who have money will also have success. And in our society this is widely considered to be greatly true. Now some people may argue that they can be happy and success with out lots of money, and that could be true but the bottom line is that having money helps you to become a more success and happy person with a lot less stress. Just think how great would it be to not have to live check by check and to wake up every morning knowing that you don't have to worry about paying your bills. The person who does not has to worry is more than likely the successful one. Its much easier to think about becoming successful if you have money in your pocket. For me when i have money it makes achieving my goals that much asier. Weather it be buying supplies, buying knowledge or buying help you will always need money to continue you success.

Pros and Cons Of Social Media

To me Social Media is something that i find very fascinating and important in my everyday life. I love being able to go online and chat and see what my friends have been up to. I love seeing pictures of major events in my friends life and it makes me feel more connected. Also Social media allows me to reconnect with people from my past or just people i haven't seen in a few days. However for every pro about social media there are just as many cons. I believe that people need to start being more careful about what they post about them selves. For example i just read an article that said of the first things robbers do before they break into someones house is they see were that person checked into on Facebook so that they know that person is not home. Also most jobs now days before hiring you ask to see your Facebook so that they can see and read just what kind of person you are. So his means all those pictures you post with you and your friends being drunk and stupid will greatly effect you getting a job in the near or far future. Never the less i am a total fan of social media and i am for everything it has to offer. I just add that you should start using it more wisely.

Gladiator Review

The movie in which i choose to review was Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott and produced by Steven Spielberg. Starring Russell Crowe. I picked this film to review because i love movies that portray actual historical personages and events from the Roman era. This film best represented that for me. Gladiator is set around 180 AD and is a fictional thriller with a little romance. While watching this movie or movies like gladiator it amazes me to see the types of things these gladiators had to go through and how they were able to remain positive even though there were enslaved and beaten everyday. It was just the hope that they could one day be free again and be with their families that kept them going. For example when Maximus( Russell Crowe) is fighting Tigris in the arena and is about to be killed, Maximus goes into a sort of day dream where he remembers and in visions his family and how they were taken from him and it suddenly gives him a sense of energy and passion that he used to kill Tigris! I loved the movies style. It wasn't just another two and a half hour thriller, it had a lot of sad moment also and was a movie that the viewer could watch and understand in several different ways. I loved this movie and have watched it around ten times in my life. I would sincerely recommend it to another person especially if you like movies based in the Roman era. I was entertained for the full two and a half hours and never get tired of this movie. Go Watch It!!!

The Road by Cormac Mc Carthy

The book that I choose for my book review was the novel "The Road" by Cormac Mc Carthy. The book takes place in a post apolitical version of earth where everyone has either perished or is on there last legs trying to survive. The book follows the life of a boy and his father, and the struggles they go through as they make there way across the United States on foot in their quest in trying to make it to the Western coast, where they plan on living the remaining years of their life. During there journey they go through struggles such as trying to hide from the blood thirsty desperate people that are left in the word, and they also live day to day trying to find food and water knowing that if they don't there time left in the world will soon come to an end. Through out the book a theme that keeps coming up is love. It is the love between the father and son that keeps them from not giving up and it is what keeps them from disappearing into complete insanity.

The element of the book that I found most interesting was how I had never read a book that was based in an authors theory of how the world would come to an end. It made it very interesting to read and it made the book very hard to put down because of its uniqueness to me. My favorite character through out the book was the father because I couldn't imagine having to do the things he did to keep he and his son safe and the author really him a entertaining character to follow through out the book.

After finishing the novel I believe that it was a very good book to read I found it very entertaining and being a person that has never really enjoyed reading I couldn't put the book down. It is unlike any other book that you have read before and i can guarantee that even if you don't like this type of style of book, you will enjoy this read. It was a real page turner and will really give you an appreciation for this authors style of writing. So after reading the book i would give this a definite thumbs UP!!!

Culture Shock!!

It wasn't hard making the decisions with a partner because i choose to work by myself. I found it interesting to read through each slide and what they had to say about the image. Although in the end they were not able to change my opinion. I thought it was an acceptable image to have on there homepage.

1) Yes i believe video games are a form of art. Most of them take far more time to create and make eye catching to the player than a painting does. However i don't believe you will ever see a video game in a museum.
2) No i did not find any of the images offensive or object able. And it was not difficult to decide wether or not the image belonged on the home screen.
3) No the quotes on the site were not strong or influential enough to change my opinion.
4)I believe that video games can create some types of violence but i believe that in the end of the day the type of person who is going to do something violent would do it anyway with out playing video games.

Cool Clothes for the Identical Zombies

In Damien Cav's essay "On Sale at Old Navy: Cool Clothes for the Identical Zombie". He argues that clothing corporations such as Old Navy sell isn't as nice as they sell it out to be. And that he believes people are often influenced to wear stuff they normally wouldn't. Damien believes that it is all just a big game to trap you into buying things. I believe with his statement and also believe that people can be blinded and persuaded by prices to buy things they shouldn't buy. He makes the point of calling us all zombies because he thinks individuality is disappearing with future generations and that everyone is starting to dress that same. I also agree with this statement becasue everywhere i look people are wearing the same brand names and even people who i know in the past would never wear a certain brand are now conforming with everyone else!

Throwing a Book at a Teacher

While reading the novel I came across a cartoon that i thought was really interesting. It was the cartoon where Arnold is throwing his geometry book across the room at his teacher. I think he is doing this because he realized that he has his mother book from when she was in school and that he realizers that he is going to have the same future she has unless he does something about it. He wants to be a successful person and he throws book because he has so much anger built up inside of him!!(page 31)

Vodka and Vans Ad

The first ad i will talk about is the Russian Vodka Ad
I believe that this ad is definitely directed towards young men around the age of 21! While looking at the ad you first see two lovely looking ladies staring right at you then you see the Russian Voka and quickly realize that this is an ad for vodka. I think they want you to believe that if you drink Russian Vodka that you will get certain women like this when in fact this is probably not the case!! They also want you to be attracted to this certain vodka by making the bottles very bright colors and make them appear good even though you might hate vodka.
The second ad i will talk about is the Doice and Gabbana
When i first looked at this ad I wasn't sure as to what was being advertised. Until i finally saw it said Doice and Gabbana. I think that this ad is directed toward men in that it is trying to tell you you will get women like this if you wear or buy them this particular brand name. After looking at the ad for an extended period of time i am still confused as to what its trying to sell but im pretty sure all they wanted to do was attract the eye of the reader buy having pretty women in the ad!

Cartoon Analysis White or Indian

The cartoon that i found most interesting was the drawing of him split between two pages where one half of the page was he as an indian and the second was he as a white kid. I thought that this cartoon was perfect to analyze because it best represented the book. I like how it shows on the white side that he will be successful and that there is hope for him to have a brighter future and then on the indian side it shoes him as a poor skinny kid with a vanishing past. He is cool and is a role model on the white side of the cartoon and a loser on the indian side. He wants to make something of him self and forget about his past!

"Smell Like A Man"

Nothings more manly than a buff man riding a white horse confidently down a beach in my opinion. So i choose Old Spices advertisement for body spray for my first class blog. This was a very different but bold approach to sell body spray that I believe will attract many young men. It definitely attracted me to this particular body spray!!
